The Person You Are Right Now Can't Create The Life You Want

Close your eyes for a moment.

I want you to see yourself five years from now. Not what you're doing. Not what you have. Who you are being.

See that person clearly.

How do they carry themselves? How do they make decisions? How do they show up in the world?

Are they free? Confident? Operating at their highest level?

Do they ask for permission or do they lead?

Do they trade time for money or create value from who they are?

Now open your eyes.

Notice the gap between that person and who you are right now.

That gap? That's the only thing standing between you and everything you want.

The Problem Most Nurses Won't Admit

I talk to nurses every day who are stuck.

Not because they're not smart enough. Not because they don't work hard enough. Not because they lack credentials.

They're stuck because they're trying to create a new life from an old identity.

They want freedom but think like employees. They want wealth but operate from scarcity. They want impact but play small.

And then they wonder why nothing changes.

Here's what I've learned after losing $250,000, rebuilding everything, and now teaching hundreds of nurses how to build wealth:

Your results are always a perfect match for your consciousness.

Not your effort. Not your credentials. Not your hustle.

Your consciousness.

Bob Proctor taught this decades ago: "As you grow, everything that you do grows. Everything has to start from within. Create the behaviors and beliefs of the life you want to live. Everything else is a byproduct."

Let me say that again: Everything else is a byproduct.

Your business? Byproduct. Your income? Byproduct. Your freedom? Byproduct. Your impact? Byproduct.

Of what?

Of who you become.

Why Another Certification Won't Fix This

I watch nurses collect certifications like they're Pokémon cards.

ACLS. PALS. NP specialty certifications. Business courses. Marketing programs.

They're looking for the magic credential that will finally unlock the life they want.

But here's the truth: You can't credential your way into a new identity.

The person you are right now—the one with the employee mindset, the scarcity consciousness, the permission-seeking behavior—that person can have all the certifications in the world.

They'll still be stuck.

Because the problem isn't what you know. It's who you are.

When I lost everything during COVID, I had all the credentials. RN. NP. Business owner. Author.

None of it mattered.

Because the person I was—the one who built those businesses, made those decisions, operated from that consciousness—couldn't hold the weight of what I was trying to create.

I had to become someone different first.

Not fake it. Not pretend. Not "act as if."

Actually become someone different at the consciousness level.

That's when everything changed.

The Future Self You Saw Is Real

When you closed your eyes at the beginning of this post, you saw someone.

That wasn't fantasy. That wasn't wishful thinking.

That was your future self showing you who you're capable of becoming.

They have different beliefs than you do right now. They have different behaviors. They operate from different consciousness. They have a different relationship with money, time, power, and freedom.

And everything flows from that.

Their business works because of who they are, not because they hustled harder. Their wealth comes because of how they think, not because they found some secret tactic. Their impact happens because of how they show up, not because they had the perfect strategy.

The gap between you and them isn't about doing more.

It's about becoming more.

What This Actually Looks Like

People always ask me: "Okay Mary, but how do I actually do this?"

They want a five-step process. A worksheet. A checklist.

And I understand why. We're trained as nurses to follow protocols. To want clear instructions.

But consciousness doesn't work that way.

Here's what it actually looks like:

You start creating behaviors from your future self, not your current self.

Your current self asks permission. Your future self leads. Your current self waits for proof. Your future self acts on vision. Your current self thinks "I can't afford that." Your future self thinks "How can I afford that?"

You stop waiting to feel ready.

Your current self needs to feel confident before acting. Your future self acts and builds confidence through action.

You understand that feeling scared and doing it anyway IS the transformation.

You take full responsibility.

Your current self has reasons why things aren't working. Your future self has results.

Your current self blames circumstances. Your future self creates circumstances.

You invest in becoming, not just learning.

Your current self buys courses and never finishes them. Your future self invests in transformation and does the deep work.

Your current self collects information. Your future self integrates wisdom.

See the difference?

It's not about doing different things.

It's about being a different person who naturally does different things.

The Work Most People Won't Do

I'm going to be honest with you.

This work is uncomfortable.

It requires you to look at yourself truthfully and see where you're operating from fear, scarcity, and limitation.

It requires you to let go of identities you've been holding onto—"good nurse," "team player," "the responsible one"—that no longer serve you.

It requires you to step into a version of yourself you've never been before. With no proof. With no guarantee. With nothing but vision and faith.

Most people won't do this work.

They'll keep looking for the easier path. The tactical solution. The credential that will finally fix everything.

And they'll stay stuck.

But some people—maybe you—will read this and recognize yourself.

You'll feel the gap between who you are and who you're meant to become.

And instead of running from it, you'll lean into it.

That's when transformation begins.

Everything You Want Flows From Who You Become

When I rebuilt after losing everything, I didn't start with a business plan.

I started with this question: Who do I need to become to create what I really want?

Not what do I need to do. Not what tactics do I need. Not what credential do I need.

Who do I need to become?

And then I did the uncomfortable work of becoming that person.

I shifted my consciousness from scarcity to abundance. I changed my identity from employee to entrepreneur. I created new behaviors from my future self, not my current self.

And everything else flowed from that.

The WISELY™ Framework that's now taught at universities? Byproduct. The books I wrote? Byproduct. The community of 1,800+ nurse practitioners? Byproduct. The business that replaced my clinical income? Byproduct.

All of it came from becoming someone different first.

Not the other way around.

Your Turn

So here's my question for you:

Who do you need to become?

Not what do you need to achieve. Not what goal do you need to hit. Not what milestone do you need to reach.

Who do you need to become?

Close your eyes again. See that future self clearly.

Now ask yourself:

What's the gap between who they are and who you are right now?

What beliefs do they hold that you don't? What behaviors are natural to them that feel impossible to you? How do they think differently about money? Time? Power? Freedom?

That gap is everything.

And closing it is the only work that matters.

Not more certifications. Not more tactics. Not more hustle.

Consciousness work. Identity work. Becoming work.

That's where transformation happens.

That's where wealth flows from.

That's where freedom comes from.

That's where impact becomes inevitable.

Bob Proctor was right: As you grow, everything that you do grows.

So stop trying to change what you do.

Start changing who you are.

Everything else is a byproduct.
